Extravagant Start/Finish Area |
November 20, 2010
Our first Mad Scot Trail Ride was late in the year, pushing up on December. Was it ever cold that morning - 30 degrees when we were starting out. I'm not kidding!
We wanted to raise $1,000 and we only had enough time to get a loose group of friends together. We beat our goal and raised $1,060 for NephCure that year! Okay, so we didn't break any records, but it was a success! And it's a good start. We're hoping to build it up over the coming years. Mostly because it's a great ride - people will love this trail! And Jim Thorpe is a fun town - lots for folks to do when the riders are out. And most importantly, it's a great cause.
The days were getting short in late November and the last riders barely beat the sunset to get back to Jim Thorpe as everyone nestled into Molly Maguires Pub for some hot eats and cold brews!

Riders Raised
Mike Reynolds $335
Jim Gilbert $325
Kevin Horio $300
Chris "Petz" Ross $100
Starting Toast
In honor of Colin and his home country, we always start the ride with a wee dram o' whisky. We learned they don't call it Scotch over there, and yes - they spell whisky without an 'e'. ; )
After one whole year, it's become a tradition! We usually sling back some Talisker, from the Isle of Skye - from where Colin's wife Wilma hails.

Here's to you, Colin! |
With such a long tradition, we can't break it now! Remember to bring some Scottish whisky if you'd like to join in on the toast and ride like a Mad Scot! The ride starts at 10am, so as Kevin's wife Joya likes to say - "when the hour's double digits, it's okay to drink!"
